MAKING LIFE BETTER…You bet it does!

“ I am starving! What’s for dinner?! ” was the main question of the day in my house when all five kids were swarming about. They’re all on their own now, but every so often, even the husband pops up with this question! But, when dinnertime rolls around, and I still don’t have the answer to this question, I could use a little meal inspiration. For many moms, meals at home, keeping dinner ideas fresh, easy to prepare and budget-friendly presents some challenges. Unileve

User Ratings and Reviews

3 Stars Not for beginners!
This book is filled with good information about making soap. But I would definitely not recommend it for a beginner! If I had bought this book first, I would never have made my first batch. Her instructions are not precise enough for folks who know nothing about making soap. She also uses terms that I wasn’t familiar with a few weeks ago (before making my own soap). Her methodology is more complicated than it has to be.

I VERY MUCH prefer Smart Soapmaking by Anne Watson. Smart Soapmaking: The Simple Guide to Making Traditional Handmade Soap Quickly, Safely, and Reliably, or How to Make Luxurious Handcrafted Soaps for Family, Friends, and Yourself

Now that I have made several batches of soap using Anne’s methods, I can read “The Companion” without being instantly intimidated.

3 Stars A Timeless Classic!
There is a lot of helpful information within these pages. Every wanna-be-soapmaker should read this book. That doesn’t mean that I think it’s excellent for beginner’s. I think it could be a bit overwhelming. Just make sure it isn’t the only book you read. This book provides info on carrier oils, essential oils, technique. There is more than you will need to make your first batch. You will grow into this book. I enjoyed it and it is one of those type of books that you will read again and again.

5 Stars The Soapmaker’s Companion
I absolutely LOVE this book! It really is a soapmaker’s “Bible”. It is very easy to read and is organized in a way that you really can get started right away.

I originally checked this book out from the library, but after reading a few sections I ordered two copies: one to use and one to keep in my reference library.

It is so easy to use and the language is so easy to understand that it takes the mystery out of soapmaking and replaces it with fun.

We have enjoyed using the recipes in this book as well as creating our own. If you ever dreamed of making your own soap, this is the perfect book to start with.

3 Stars Methods are Dated
I really enjoy this book for ideas and inspiration. She has some truly wonderful soaping ideas in here, and I love just browsing through it.

That being said, I really don’t use it that much. The recipes call for too many ingredients, are WAY to heavily superfatted to last, and her mixing method (in a stand mixer) takes forever. I can stick blend my soap to trace in just a couple of minutes.

We’ve also found out a few things about grapefruit seed extract since this book was published. Basically, it does little to nothing to preserve the shelf life of your soaps….a lot of reputable suppliers are pulling it from the retail inventory and substituting other antioxidants.

If you’re looking for some interesting ideas, by all means invest, but don’t make this your first book.

5 Stars Great guide to making soap at home
I found her information very helpful and clear. My mother also uses this book and is the one who suggested it to me. She has been making soap at home for years and finds this book the best one she’s seen.

Chanel’s In Love with Coral Blush

March 31, 2009 by Beauty Tips · Leave a Comment

It’s raining coral blush, hallelujah! I dunno about you, but I love coral blushes like drag queens love sequins. A couple weeks ago, Chanel busted out the summer Cote D’Azur collection with their new coral blush, In Love ($45). It’s one of several coral blushes to arrive on department store makeup counters over the past couple months. Are you a coral blush kinda girl (or boy!) wondering which new blush to try? Here’s a comparison swatch of In Love alongside two of my favorite coral
